This section of the North Wales Coastal Cycleway starts at Talacre then sweeps along the sea front, passing the popular holiday resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl and leading to Pensarn. The route is mostly traffic free but there are a few sections of road, and one crossing a bridge by the Rhyl harbour where you may wish to dismount and push. There are numerous distractions along the way, such as the Ffrith Beach Fun Park in Prestatyn and various cafes and shops. On a sunny day the temptation to stop off for an ice cream can be overwhelming! The views along the coast and inland towards the Clwydian hills are superb, and often quite a contrast to the hustle and bustle of Prestatyn and Rhyl.
The route is 19km, or 38km for a return trip. Families with younger children may wish to go for a shorter route – there are plenty of potential starting points along the way and a suitably challenging ride can easily be concocted.
The route starts near the Point of Ayr car park at Talacre.
