The Penmachno Trail is situated in a delightful part of the Snowdonia National Park. It is an excellent trail with steady climbs on forestry roads and absorbing single-track. Expect fast technical sections, tight switchbacks, bridge crossings, elevated wooden sections, stream crossings and technical ascent sections, plus some fine scenery. The trails consist of two loops which can ridden on their own or, fitness and time permitting, combined for a superb 30km connection. The Dolen Machno loop is 19km long and has the fastest descents and toughest climbs. The Dolen Eryri loop is 11km has a different character with more of an emphasis on flow. Here you will find sweeping single-track, technical pitched stone sections and boardwalk.
The trail is quite remote and some sections are very exposed should bad weather move in. Make sure are well prepared and are carrying adequate bike spares, clothing, food and water.
A local community group (Menter Bro Machno) manage the trails and volunteers carry out maintenance of the site. This essential work is funded by donations from bikers, so please give generously to the donation boxes either at the trailhead notice board or in the nearby Conwy Falls Café.
If approaching from the A5 take the B4406 to Penmachno, and then continue for 1km beyond the village and follow a forest track up on the right to the trailhead.
