The Mymbyr lakes are located in a very beautiful spot on the outskirts of Capel Curig. This place is blessed with one of the best views in Snowdonia - that being the dramatic Snowdon horseshoe which is situated to the west.

The two lakes are joined by a short narrow section and in total the measure approximately 1.5km in length. The lake head at the Plas y Brenin National Mountain Centre is often used as a starting point for a trip down the river Llugwy, but for those looking for a gentler, less committing paddle the lakes are an appealing prospect.

Approach:

Parking is available in lay-bys along the A4086 on the north side of the lake. Access is also available by arrangement with Plas y Brenin. Visitors staying at the Garth farm campsite at the western end of the lake can gain access to the lake from there.
